China Center Announces Fall Scholarship Recipients

The China Center is proud to announce the recipients of its fall 2010 semester scholarships. The students awarded scholarships are a promising group of students with outstanding academic achievements and a strong interest in learning more about greater China.

Joseph Miller
Joseph was nominated by the China Center to receive a scholarship from the Chinese government for a full year of study at a university in China.  He was awarded a scholarship to the Beijing Language and Culture University where he will spend the 2010-11 academic year studying Chinese language. Joseph is a fourth-year student in the College of Liberal Arts studying linguistics.

Mark Hong
Mark is a fourth-year student in the College of Science and Engineering (formerly Institute of Technology) studying computer engineering. He received a Red Pocket Scholarship for fall 2010 semester at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as part of a technical exchange program through the College of Science and Engineering. Mark received a Red Pocket Scholarship to help defray the expenses associated with the exchange.

Dustin Huibregtse
Dustin is a third-year student at the Carlson School of Management studying entrepreneurship and management of information systems. He will be spending the fall 2010 semester at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as part of an exchange program through the Carlson School of Management. Dustin received a Red Pocket Scholarship to help defray the expenses associated with the exchange.

Justin Wong
Justin is a third-year student at the Carlson School of Management studying finance and international business. He will be spending the fall 2010 semester at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as part of an exchange program through the Carlson School of Management. Justin received a Red Pocket Scholarship to help defray the expenses associated with the exchange.

Dehang Zheng
Dehang is a fourth-year student in the College of Science and Engineering (formerly Institute of Technology) studying computer science. He will be spending the fall 2010 semester at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as part of a technical exchange program through the College of Science and Engineering. Dehang received a Red Pocket Scholarship to help defray the expenses associated with the exchange.

Exchanges in Fall 2010

In addition to the scholarships awarded, two exchanges are taking place this academic year. While the participants of the exchange were selected last spring, the exchanges are starting this fall.

Chinese Universities Exchange Program
Jonathan Mordh is a third-year student in the College of Liberal Arts studying Asian languages and literature. He will spend the 2010-11 academic year studying Chinese language at Peking University . In exchange, Dr. Zhang Zhaobin, an associate professor at Peking University’s College of Urban and Environmental Sciences will take part in collaborative research with Professor Stephen Hecht at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center . He will be studying the cancer-promoting effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals.

International Reciprocal Student Exchange Program
Adam Jass is a third-year student in the College of Liberal Arts studying global studies. He will spend the 2010-11 academic year studying Chinese language at Nankai University . In exchange, Professor Chang Hongling, an associate professor of English and deputy chairman in the Department of Translation at Nankai University will take part in collaborative research at the University of Minnesota. He will work with Professor Richard Graff in the Department of Writing Studies . Professor Chang’s research plan is to explore the aesthetics of figures of speech.

Scholarship Deadlines

Applications for spring 2011 semester Red Pocket Scholarships and Hsiao Scholarships are due December 10, 2010. The deadline for the 2011-12 Chinese Government Scholarship , CUEP , and IRSEP is February 1, 2011.

中國中心秋季獎學金獲得者揭曉

中國中心榮幸地宣布2010年秋季獎學金獲得者名單。獲得獎學金的學生均學習成績優異並對學習了解中國有著濃厚興趣。



Joseph Miller
Joseph 由中國中心提名獲得 中國政府獎學金 資助,將於2010-11學年在北京語言大學學習中文一年。 Joseph 現在是明大 文學院 語言學專業的一名大四學生。

 

Mark Hong
Mark現在是明大 科學與工程學院 (前技術學院)計算機工程專業的一名大四學生。他獲得了紅口袋獎學金,將於2010年秋季學期參加 香港科技大學 與科學與工程學院的技術交換項目。所獲 紅口袋獎學金 將幫他支付其交換期間的部分費用。

 

Dustin Huibregtse
Dustin現在是 卡爾森管理學院 企業與信息系統管理專業的一名大三學生。他將於2010年秋季學期參加 香港科技大學 與卡爾森管理學院的交換項目。 Dustin獲得的 紅口袋獎學金 將幫他支付其交換期間的部分費用。

2010年秋季交換項目

除去上述獎學金外,中國中心今年還有兩個交換項目。參加交換項目的候選人均於去年春季選出,於今年秋季項目正式開始。

中國大學交換項目
Jonathan Mordh現在是明大 文學院 亞洲語言與文化專業的一名大三學生。他將於2010-11學年在 北京大學 學習中文一年。作為交換,北京大學城市與環境學院副教授張照斌博士將來到明尼蘇達大學Masonic癌症中心,同Stephen Hecht教授進行合作研究。他研究的課題是內分泌干擾物的促癌作用。

國際學生互換交流項目
Adam Jass現在是明大 文學院 全球研究專業的一名大三學生。他將於2010-11學年在 南開大學 學習中文一年。作為交換,南開大學翻譯系副主任、英語副教授常洪嶺 將來到明尼蘇達大學 寫作研究系 ,同Richard Graff教授進行合作研究。 常教授的研究主題是美學修辭 。


獎學金申請截止日期

2011年春季 紅口袋獎學金蕭氏獎學金 申請截止日期為2010年12月10日。 2011-12年 中國政府獎學金中國大學交換項目國際學生互換交流項目 申請截止日期為2011年2月1日。
