Advanced Professional Development for Guangdong Province K-12 Core Teachers and Mentor Teachers

-

Twenty experienced teachers and principals from Guangdong Province took part in the Mingda Institute for Leadership Training’s “Advanced Professional Development for Guangdong Province K-12 Core Teachers and Mentor Teachers” from February 12 to March 3, 2017.

The delegation attended lectures given by University of Minnesota faculty on topics such as Overview of Operation and Management of U.S. Primary and Secondary Schools, Teacher Education: Qualifications/Criteria and Training Practices of Being a U.S. Teacher Mentor, and School Leadership and Its Impact on Student Learning. Besides regular courses, delegates also visited local primary and secondary schools, which gave them an opportunity to talk with American teachers and principals to better understand the American education system. One of the delegates had a chance to teach a Chinese class, “Chinese Zodiac”, at a Chinese immersion school to show American teachers a different way of teaching.

The training delegation members were happy with these well-designed courses, school visits, and other arrangements. An unexpected snowfall gave a surprise to the training delegates who were from Southern China where it rarely snows.
