Luoyang Institute of Science and Technology (LIT) in located in Luoyang, known as the peony city and one of China’s ancient capitals. In March 2007, LIT was established by a merger between Luoyang College of Technology and Luoyang University. The Institute now boasts three campuses, 1,171 full-time faculty, and 23,908 students. The Institute also enjoys close research collaboration with 14 universities in Russia, Italy, the U.S., and the U.K.

In an effort to continue internationalization efforts and continually improve the school’s administrative practices, LIT received approval from the Chinese government to send 11 faculty and administrators to the University of Minnesota for training in higher education policy and administration through the U of M China Center.

Through a series of carefully selected lectures and academic visits, the LIT training delegation learned about the history of land-grant universities in the United States, performance evaluation techniques, how to teach through technology, and other related topics. The two-week program in Minnesota was followed by a final week on the west coast visiting the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, the University of California-Berkeley, Stanford University, and others in order to compare the various types of higher education institutions in the United States.
