On Thursday, February 22, 2018, China Center Advisory Council members, China Center staff, and other supporters and donors gathered in the Johnson Room of the University's McNamara Alumni Center for a Chinese New Year celebration. Jim Harkness, vice chair of the China Center Advisory Council, and Joan Brzezinski, executive director of the China Center, welcomed guests and wished them a Happy Year of the Dog.

Joan Brzezinski also announced the first recipient of the Inaugural Sping Lin and Ying-Ngoh T. Lin China Center Visiting Scholars Initiative. Alex Primus, assistant professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine, was present to represent his department as the award recipient.
