Chen Hsin Tao 陈心陶

Chen Hsin Tao, born in Gutian, Fujian, graduated from Fujian Christian University in 1925. In 1929, Chen received a master of science in zoology (parasitology) from the University of Minnesota. After that, he earned a Ph.D. from the Medical School at Harvard University in 1931.

Upon returning to China, Chen served as a professor at Lingnan University, South China Medical College, and Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences. He then served as the director of Guangdong Institute of Schistosomiasis Control and Guangdong Institute of Tropical Diseases Prevention. In addition, Chen served as a representative on the 3rd and 4th National People’s Congress.

Chen is one of the founders of parasitology in China and has published more than 150 academic articles and a book titled “Medical Parasitology”. Chen was the editor-in-chief of the book “Schistosomiasis in China” which won the third prize of the National Natural Sceince Award.

 

陈心陶,福建古田人,1925年毕业于福建协和大学生物系,1929年获明尼苏达大学寄生虫学专业硕士学位。1931年获哈佛大学医学院博士学位。

回国后,陈心陶任教于岭南大学,后来历任华南医学院和中山医学院教授,广东省血吸虫病防治研究所所长,广东热带病研究所所长。此外,陈心陶曾任第三、四届全国人大代表。

陈心陶是中国寄生虫学奠基人之一,他发表了150多篇科学论文,并著有《医学寄生虫学》,主编有《中国吸虫志》,后者曾获“国家自然科学奖”三等奖。
