Chow Shih-Hsun 周世勋

Chow Shih-Hsun, who was born in 1921 in Hubei, graduated from National Central University in 1945, and received a master of science in physics from the University of Minnesota in 1950.

After graduation, Chow returned to China and taught at Hujiang University and Fudan University. From 1957 to 1959, he was a visiting scholar in the former Soviet Union. When he returned to China he served as the chairman of the board of directors in the Shanghai Physics Society.

Chow made significant contributions to the reform of textbooks in higher education. He translated the book “Atomic Physics” in 1954 and published “Quantum Mechanics” in 1961. Both books have been widely used as textbooks at universities.

周世勋,1921年生于湖北,1945年毕业于国立中央大学后赴美学习,于1950年获得明尼苏达大学物理学专业硕士学位。

毕业后,周世勋回到祖国,先后任教于沪江大学和复旦大学。1957年至1959年间,周赴前苏联访学进修,回国后担任上海市物理学会理事长。

周世勋为中国高校教材改革做出了重大贡献。他翻译了《原子物理学》(1954)并编著了《量子力学》(1961),这两本书均被很多大学采用作为教材。
