Edward W. Ng, who was born in 1939 in Hong Kong, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1962, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Columbia University in 1967.

As an applied mathematician in the U.S. Space Program, Ng worked for almost 40 years at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He contributed not only to the mathematical application in space science and engineering, but also to the spin-off of technology from the space program in areas of mathematical physics, symbolic and algebraic computation, computational physics, and biomedical research. Ng received numerous NASA awards including the American Astronomical Society Team Appreciation Award on the Deep Space Network. Ng was also elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
