Kuo-Hsiung Lee, who was born in 1940 in Taiwan, received his bachelor’s degree from Kaohsiung Medical University and master’s degree from Kyoto University in Japan. He received a doctoral degree in medicinal chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1968.
After graduation, Lee worked as post-doctoral researcher at the University of California before working as a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is currently Director of the Natural Products Research Laboratories at the School of Pharmacy. Known for his scientific and scholarly accomplishments in natural product chemistry, Lee is considered one of the more prominent natural chemists in the U.S. He was elected a Fellow of the U.S. Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Academia Sinica of Taiwan. He received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota in 1999.

李国雄博士1940年出生于台湾,获得高雄医学院药学学士和日本京都大学药学硕士后赴美留学,1968年获明尼苏达大学医药化学博士学位。
毕业后他曾在美国加州大学有机化学从事博士后研究,后在美国北卡罗来纳大学教会山分校制药学院任教。他还曾担任中国科学院上海药物研究所荣誉教授、美国国家卫生研究院有关天然产物之医药化学方面研究计划评审委员、美国药品食品检验局科技咨询顾问等。作为自然产物化学家,他在医疗化学和天然产物化学领域的研究成果影响深远。
李博士曾入选美国制药科学研究院(1978年)、美国制药科学家协会(1986年)、美国科学促进会(1994年)、台湾中央科学院院士(1996年)。他还曾获得立夫中医药学术奖(1994年)、明尼苏达大学杰出成就奖章(2003年)和日本政府的旭日中勋章(2011年)。
