Pu Chih-lung 蒲蛰龙

Pu Chih-lung, born in 1912 in Yunnan, received a bachelor of science from National Sun Yat-sen University in 1935 and a master’s degree in biology from Yenching University in 1938. After that, Pu taught at Sun Yat-sen University and in 1946, he was enrolled at the University of Minnesota and received a doctorate degree in entomology in 1949.

After returning to China, Pu served successively as director of Guangdong Agricultural Experiment Station, and professor of South China Agricultural University, director of Central South Institute of Insects at China Academy of Sciences, professor and vice-president at Sun Yat-Sen University, director of Institute of Entomology at Sun Yat-sen University, dean of College of Life Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, honorary board member of Chinese Entomology Society and Chinese Ecology Society, representative of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th National People’s Congress, and chairman of the 2nd and 3rd Science and Technology Association in Guangdong. In 1980, Pu was elected to become an academician of the Department of Biology at China Academy of Sciences.

In 1980, Pu received the University of Minnesota’s Outstanding Achievement Award, which is the highest honor for alumni.

蒲蛰龙,1912年生于云南,1935年获国立中山大学理学学士学位,1938年获燕京大学获生物学硕士学位。后来任教于中山大学,1946年来到明尼苏达大学并于1949年获得博士学位。

毕业回国后,蒲蛰龙历任广东省农业实验场场长,华南农学院教授,中国科学院中南昆虫研究所所长,中山大学教授、副校长,中山大学昆虫学研究所所长,中山大学生命科学学院院长, 中国昆虫学会和中国生态学会荣誉理事,第二、三、四、五、六、七、八届全国人大代表,第二、三届广东省科学技术协会主席。1980年当选为中国科学院生物学部委员(院士)。

1980年,蒲蛰龙被授予明尼苏达大学杰出成就奖,此奖为明尼苏达大学授予校友的最高荣誉。
