Tao Dinglai, who was born in 1920 in Hubei Province, graduated from the department of mechanical engineering at National Southwestern Associated University in 1942. In 1945, he came to the University of Minnesota as one of 10 Chinese college graduates selected to come to the U.S. to study agricultural engineering. Tao received a master’s degree in agricultural engineering in 1947. After a one-year internship on a farm, he returned to China.
From 1950-1956, Tao was superintendent of the Dongshing State Farm in Jiangsu Province. From 1956 to 1962, he held the position of director at the Institute of Farm Mechanization, which is a unit of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. From 1962 to 1978, Tao was deputy president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences. He then served two tenures as president of both the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Engineering Research and Planning and Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering.

陶鼎来,1920年出生于湖北省,1942年毕业于国立西南联大机械工程专业。1945年,作为10名派遣美国学习农业工程的学生之一,陶鼎来入读明大。1947年,陶鼎来获农业工程硕士学位,在农场实习一年后,陶鼎来回到中国。
1950年至1956年,陶鼎来出任国家江苏省东兴农场的负责人;1956年至1962年,他被任命为中国农业研究院农业机械学院主任。1963-1978年,陶鼎来成为中国农业机械科学研究院的副主席。陶鼎来在中国农业工程规划研究院和中国农业工程协会连任两届主席。
