How to Apply

Please review all instructions thoroughly and prepare all documents to be uploaded BEFORE starting your application. You may not save your application and come back later. If you have questions, please contact the China Center at chinactr@umn.edu or 612-624-1002.

In addition to completing this online application, you must also upload the following documents:

Personal Statement: Upload a 3-page (maximum), double-spaced essay with 1-inch margins and 12 pt. font. Essays that do not follow formatting or length requirements will not be accepted. Your essay must answer the following questions. Be as specific as possible.

  • What are you studying at the University of Minnesota?
  • How will this funding help you accomplish your academic, personal, and/or career goals?
  • What is your interest in and connection with China or its culture?

Faculty recommendation letter:  You must obtain one letter of recommendation from a faculty member. Recommendation letters may be submitted directly to the China Center or uploaded here with your application. 

Transcript (unofficial):  You must provide a copy of your unofficial transcript.

Be sure you have all application materials ready before starting this application; you will not be able to save and come back to this application.
