Lou Chenghou, who was born in 1911 in Tianjin, graduated from Tsinghua University in 1932 with a bachelor of science in biology. Then he received a master’s degree from Lingnan University in 1934 and a doctorate in plant physiology in 1939 from the University of Minnesota.
After he returned to China, Lou was invited by Tang Peisong, another Minnesota alumnus, to join a research group at the plant physiology laboratory of Tsinghua University that Tang was directing. In 1949, he served as a professor of plant physiology at Beijing Agricultural University and later became the vice-president of the institution. He also served as a vice chairman for China Phytophysiology Association. In 1980, he was elected to be an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The University of Minnesota awarded him an honorary doctorate of science in 2001.

娄成后，1911年生于天津。1932年获得北京大学生物学学士，1934年获得岭南大学硕士学位，1939年获得明尼苏达大学植物生理学博士。
娄成后回国后，受另一位明大校友汤佩松之邀，加入汤佩松领导的清华大学植物生理学实验室研究团队。1949年，娄成后任中国农业大学植物生理学教授，随后出任农大副校长。娄成后同时还是中国植物生理学协会副会长。1980年，娄成后入选中国社会科学院院士。2001年，明尼苏达大学农业、食品和环境科学学院授予娄成后荣誉博士学位。
