Join us for the 2026 CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections, organized by the National Committee on United States-China Relations and locally hosted by the University of Minnesota China Center and Global Minnesota.
The program will start with the viewing of a national livestream featuring Sarah Beran, former Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, in conversation with former Deputy Secretary of State, Stephen Biegun. The livestream will be followed by an on-site discussion with Kevin Luo, assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota.

About the Speaker
Kevin Luo is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His primary research agenda focuses on state capacity and the construction of state power in China and Asia, drawing insights from both historical and contemporary perspectives. His broader interests also include authoritarianism and democratization, development and security in East Asia, and contemporary politics in China and Taiwan.
Prof. Luo also runs a research initiative called the Minnesota Asian Political Development Lab. Graduate and undergraduate students interested in empirical research related to Asian political history are welcome to join.
