Changsha Education Bureau Advanced Training on Core Competency and Professional Development for K-12 Teachers

-

As St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and a delegation prepared for a trip to Changsha, China from October 8-10 to celebrate the 31-year old sister-city relationship, we celebrated the successful completion of a Mingda training program with a group of 26 high school educators from the same city.

The delegation consisted of high school teachers, principals, and administrative staff. The three-week training was focused on core competency and professional development. They attended carefully curated lectures by Dr. Katie Pekel from the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development, and the Mingda Institute for Leadership Training. The delegation also visited various schools in the Twin Cities area to learn about how Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports are implemented in schools. The delegation was able to apply what they learned in the classroom to the school visits. They observed classrooms and the opportunity to interact with students, teachers and principals was invaluable.

We thank these schools for their hospitality and support: Minnetonka High School, Wayzata Middle School and High School, Highland Park High School, Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion Academy, Chanhassen High School, Breck School, St. Paul Academy, and Minnesota Department of Education.
