The Center for Transportation Studies and the China Center's Mingda Institute for Leadership Training co-organized the Global Transit Innovations Summer Training Program from July 10 to August 19, 2017. Thirty-three students from Southeast University, Northwest University, and Nanjing Tech University participated in this program.

The program combined exceptional resources with distinguished University of Minnesota faculty to provide a great study abroad opportunity for the Chinese students. The program was delivered through lectures and professional field trips, dedicating to expand the students’ global vision in the urban planning field and to enhance their cross-cultural competence. It also served as an international bridge between four participating universities. The program includes multiple modules of classes: Geographical Information System Application in Transportation, Introduction to Urban Planning, Transportation Infrastructure Tour, Practitioner Seminars, and English Improvement and Culture Courses.

In this six-week program, students also experienced the American Midwest culture through a variety of extracurricular activities, such as touring Lake Superior, and visiting Split Rock Lighthouse and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which added a unique view to the colorful summer.
