We mourn the passing of Jennie Ho Hsiao, a cherished friend of the China Center and a visionary supporter of our students. Through the Jennie and Fred Hsiao Scholarship and the Hsiao Shaw-Lundquist Fellowship, she has provided U of M students with access to life-changing experiences that will inspire them for the rest of their lives.
Jennie’s life embodied resilience, generosity, and a deep commitment to building bridges across cultures. Even as she faced the challenges of vision loss, she remained full of grace, warmth, and unwavering dedication to service. Her leadership in the Chinese-American community and her belief in the power of education continue to inspire us.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Hsiao family and are deeply grateful for their continued support of the Jennie and Fred Hsiao Scholarship Fund. Jennie’s memory lives on in the students whose lives she transformed and in the community she strengthened with her vision and heart.
