September 5, 2025

The China Center collaborated with the Global DBA program of the Carlson School to host a U.S.–China Relations Forum on August 29 at the Weisman Art Museum. The event was part of the 2025 Global DBA Summer Residency and provided participants with perspectives from leading experts on contemporary developments in U.S.–China relations.

The program opened with remarks from Joan Brzezinski, Executive Director of the China Center, and Tony Haitao Cui, Ecolab-Pierson Grieve Chair in International Marketing and Deputy Associate Dean for Global DBA. Their introductions underscored the University’s deep engagement with China and the importance of informed dialogue on global economic and political trends.

The forum featured presentations by four distinguished speakers: Jing Qian, Managing Director of the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis; Neysun Mahboubi, Director of the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.–China Relations; David Lampton, Professor Emeritus and former Director of SAIS China at Johns Hopkins University; and Yawei Liu, Senior Advisor on China at The Carter Center. Each speaker brought a unique lens shaped by expertise in policy, law, political analysis, and long-term engagement in bilateral affairs.

A panel discussion and Q&A session allowed participants to explore key themes in greater depth, including political developments, cooperation and competition, regulatory trends, and long-term implications for U.S.–China engagement. The program concluded with time for continued conversation among presenters and attendees.

Through this collaboration, the China Center and the Carlson School provided Global DBA participants with a timely and substantive opportunity to engage with one of the world’s most consequential international relationships, reinforcing the University’s commitment to fostering informed and nuanced understanding of U.S.–China dynamics.
