Age of Ambition: Truth, Faith, and Fortune in China

The University of Minnesota welcomed Evan Osnos, author of "Age of Ambition: Truth, Faith, and Fortune in China" to speak at the China Center’s 14th annual Bob and Kim Griffin “Building U.S.-China Bridges Lecture” on May 5, 2015, held at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium. More than 200 faculty, students and community guests attended the lecture. 

About the Speaker

As a New Yorker correspondent, Evan Osnos specializes in all things related to China. Based in Beijing from 2005 to 2013, he reported on the country’s rise to power. He won the 2014 National Book Award for Nonfiction for Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China. He is now The New Yorker’s Washington correspondent. Prior to The New Yorker, Osnos worked as the Beijing Bureau Chief of the Chicago Tribune, where he contributed to a series on product safety that won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting on the global trade in unsafe imports.

About the Lecture

Building a legacy for their children and for Minnesota, Bob and Kim Griffin created an endowment fund at the China Center to establish the “Bob and Kim Griffin Building U.S.- China Bridges Lecture.” The Griffin’s substantial gift reflects their commitment to promoting the mutual respect between the two cultures and their passion to connect people to China.
