B.S., Architecture, 1921
Lin Shu Ming, also named Lin Sze Ming, who was born in 1898 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, came to the University of Minnesota in 1917 and received a bachelor of science in architecture in 1921. He was a very active student at the University and in 1919 wrote a drama called “In the Last Days of the Manchus,” which was later staged by Chinese students on campus. Lin’s brother, Lin Sze Chen, a student in mining, took one of the roles. In addition, Lin joined several organizations including the Architectural Society, Chinese Students’ Club, and the Cosmopolitan Club. After graduating from the University, Lin enrolled at Columbia University for further studies in architecture.
Lin returned to mainland China until the late 1940s and then moved to Taiwan where he established Lin Shu Ming Architectural Firm. Lin became one of the most influential architects of his time. His most prominent work is the Provincial Assembly Headquarter in Taizhong.
Lin also served as an adjunct professor at Chinese Culture University in Taipei and was elected president of Architectural Institute of Taiwan from 1965-1968.

林澍民，又名林斯铭，1898年生于福建省福州市，他于1917年来到明尼苏达大学攻读建筑学，并于1921年获得学士学位。在明大期间，林澍民非常活跃，他撰写了剧本“满洲国的最后时光”，中国留学生在明大校园演出了这部话剧，其中林澍民的弟弟林斯澄当时就读于明大矿冶学院，他也参演了这部话剧。另外，林澍民还积极参与了各种组织，如建筑学会、中国学生会、和世界学生会。从明大毕业后，林澍民赴哥伦比亚大学继续攻读建筑学。
林澍民毕业后先回到中国大陆，于40年代末移居台湾，成立了林澍民建筑师事务所。林澍民成为当时最有影响力的建筑师之一。他最著名的作品是位于台中的议会大楼。
同时，林澍民还曾经任教于位于台北的中国文化大学，并于1965年至1968年间被选任台湾建筑学会的会长。
