Shiue Cherng-Jiann, born in 1921, received a bachelor degree in forest management at Fukien College of Agriculture in 1944, and a master degree and a doctorate degree in forestry at the University of Minnesota respectively in 1955 and 1957.
Before coming to the United States, Shiue served for eight years as research forester on the staff of the Taiwan Forest Research Institute. At the University of Minnesota, he taught statistical methods and microtechnique, and conducted research in forest inventory.
He was a contributor to “Forest Science”, “Journal of Forestry”, and other professional and scientific periodicals. Shiue is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Mid-western America.

薛承健，生于1921年，1944年毕业于福建省立农学院森林学系，随后任职于省农业研究所，后来移居台湾并任职于台湾省林业试验所。1954年来到明尼苏达大学，并于1955和1957年分别获得森林学专业硕士和博士学位。
毕业后，薛承健留校在明尼苏达大学教授统计方法和显微技术方面的课程，同时他从事了森林资源调查方面的研究。
他曾经为杂志“森林科学”、“森林学杂志”和其他学术期刊撰稿。他得成就被列入《美国科学名人录》和《美国中西部名人录》。
